History advocates are making their pitch for state dollars at the state Capitol this week. The Historical Society says it knows money is tight but it needs a 50-percent increase to keep programs going for historical preservation and education. Director Michael Fox says whether it's Split Rock Lighthouse or Fort Snelling -- they've had to curtail hours and the level of programming over the years because of budget reductions. Fox says they hope lawmakers will set aside 36-million dollars over the next two years for history-related needs. The Society gets some money from state legacy funds but the amount is determined by the legislature.
