The Duluth Police were kept busy last weekend as proactive patrols were increased in college campus neighborhoods during student move-in days. Police intervened in 26 student parties from Thursday through Saturday and issued 25 underage consumption tickets. The goal of the interventions is to interrupt the parties and disturbances before neighbors start complaining. Police will continue to address the problems related to college housing by educating students on the laws and consequences, holding landlords accountable for nuisance behavior by tenants and reassigning some community police officers to college neighborhoods. Colleges will also be given the names of students who are involved in code of conduct violations for off-campus behavior.
