A kayaker who was trying to paddle from the McQuade Safe Harbor to Duluth on Monday encountered rough water and had to be rescued by Fire Department first responders.  The Duluth man's kayak capsized in three foot waves about a block out in Lake Superior from the area of 9000 Congdon Boulevard.  The fire department's Captain Mark Herman swam out to the kayaker and assisted him in swimming back to shore.  The 43 year old kayaker was uninjured and was able to drive himself home after his rescue.
