WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Environment and Public Works committee head Barbara Boxer on Monday asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into the Gulf oil spill.
Boxer and other members of the panel requested that the Justice Department examine whether BP Plc "made false and misleading statements to the federal government regarding its ability to respond to oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico."
