A fire in an upstairs room of a two-story house in Duluth was quickly extinguished by firefighters Saturday morning, but left considerable smoke damage. The two occupants of the house at 818 East 8th Street were sleeping at the time of the fire and were awakened by the smoke and later treated for smoke inhalation. Although there were a number of smoke detectors in the house, fire officials say none were operational. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the damage estimates are set at $25,000.
