(Bemidji, MN) -- Law enforcement officials are urging Minnesotans, especially senior citizens, to beware of a new burglary scam making the rounds in central Minnesota. Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp (HOE'-dap) says the victim gets a bogus call that a loved one is in the emergency room with serious injuries and, when the person rushes out of the house, burglars move in and grab what they can. Hodapp says the burglars might even know the name of the person's grandchild or other information to make it seem legitimate. Officials advise anyone receiving such a call to first check with the hospital before leaving home.
