I don’t know much about him nor do I care. What I do know is that he did it HIS way....I like that. I like that somebody has laid the ground rules or his/her likes & dislikes and EVERYBODY knows them. Any player knows that when you played for George, you were clean shaven. Not one Yankee was pardoned of this request. Not one Yankee even tried to fight it. You knew that if you want to play for him, you did it his way......every time. I’m not some egotistical jerk (ok, maybe a bit) that just wants his way. You do it like this, you’ll win, we’ll prosper, and life goes on. Everything about that makes me smile.
Maybe that’s old school.....actually, it is. Its old school, it’s perhaps pushy, but it worked for George and it could work for others. I think it takes a certain person with the right idea.....not every owner/boss can pull it off.
He was responsible for bringing New York 7 championships, pennants, fame, fortune, and respect from around the world. This morning baseball lost a great man, George Steinbrenner (1930-2010).
