Resistant Is A Scam Posted October 31, 2006 by Johnny Lee Walker
I recently was given a very expensive watch for being in a buddy's wedding. I was checking out the engraving on the back and noticed that printed on the back was, "Water resistant 50m." I thought......so it's water resistant to fifty meters......ok. What does water resistant mean? My mother would say, "Look it up" so I did.
Water Resistant - resisting though not entirely preventing the penetration of water.
Ah-ha.....I see.....this is a clever way of covering their butts. I remember when we had "waterproof" watches. What does the dictionary describe for water proof?
Waterproof - impervious to water
Now the watches I used to have were worth about $5 and they used to say, "Waterproof to 20 feet" or something like that. So I started asking around......seems everybody's watch says "Water resistant."
So why would they even bother putting a depth on the watch if it's not even guaranteed to stay dry......oh...there it is.....it doesn't guarantee anything.
So as usual I'm blowing something out of proportion but come on!!! You just want me to know you sold/sell a guaranteed piece of crap. I'm sure if you go to a dive shop you might find watches that say waterproof, but putting water resistant on a watch is pointless. I'll tell you something right now.....resistant is a scam!!!
